SiO2@Pd@CeO2 catalyst with improved thermal stability: Effect of interaction between Pd and CeO2 on activity for CO oxidation

•CeO2-encapsulated core-shell structure was introduced to improve both thermal stability and catalytic activity.•Pd adjacent to CeO2 formed PdxCe1-xO2 solid solution.•Catalytic activity was increased due to the strong interaction between Pd and CeO2•CeO2 core-shell structure inhibited sintering of Pd during thermal treatment at 700 °C.
