Lithospheric memory of subduction in mantle pyroxenite xenoliths from rift-related basalts

•We report major-, trace-element and Sr-Nd-Hf isotope data from garnet pyroxenites.•Parental melts are from a mélange-like source including sediment and oceanic crust.•The pyroxenites are cumulates partly affected by basaltic/carbonatitic metasomatism.•Their storage consists of a “lithospheric memory” reactivated by Cenozoic rifting.•They may explain the subduction signature of rift-related basalts from SE Australia.
