•WASPs provide sensitivity-enhanced versions of frequently used 3QMAS sequences.•Extensive comparison between simulated and experimental MQMAS data.•WASPs are shown to be free of amplitude and phase transients.•Compared to conventional pulses, WASPs enable a safer application of high rf-fields.•Easy implementation of WASPs without any additional optimization required.
