Long-term effects of gestational diabetes on bone mineral density and fracture risk: Analysis of the Norfolk cohort of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer (EPIC-Norfolk) population-based study

•A total of 12,145 women were included from the Norfolk cohort of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer.•Gestational diabetes mellitus was significantly associated with hip fractures after adjusting for confounding factors.•No other study has investigated the link between gestational diabetes mellitus and fracture risk.•Further research is required to gain deeper insight into the relationship.
