•A field survey was conducted on the relationship between the parking occupancy and the cruising time.•A macroscopic parking dynamics for both on- and off-street parking operations with limited capacity.•Information provision is considered with different levels of driver compliance.•Two real-time parking pricing strategies are developed and compared.
