Effect Of Isotretinoin On Glucose Metabolism In Patients With Diabetes

Isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic acid) is a vitamin A derivative and a highly effective treatment for severe recalcitrant nodulo-cystic acne. It is generally well-tolerated; however, it is known to have a wide range of side effects. It is well-recognised that isotretinoin can increase serum total cholesterol and triglycerides, and reduces levels of high-density lipoprotein. It is less widely recognised that isotretinoin can also alter insulin sensitivity.
