Multivariate analysis of sorghum volatiles for the fast screening of sugarcane aphid infestation

•Sugarcane aphid (SCA) herbivory affected sorghum-emitting volatile organic compounds (VOCs).•There were no qualitative differences between healthy and SCA-infested sorghum.•Several VOCs showing quantitative differences in relative concentrations were identified.•SCA infestation was finally detected by multivariate analysis based on the identified VOCs.
