Impact of feeding low and average birthweight pigs on a weight basis post-weaning on growth performance and body composition

•Av BW pigs were heavier than low BW pigs throughout production.•Low BW pigs recorded greater% fat and lower% lean than av BW pigs.•Low BW animals fed on a weight basis were heavier and older at each diet transition.•Pigs fed on a weight basis post-weaning were heavier from week 7 to slaughter.•Feeding on a weight basis had no detrimental effect on body / carcass composition.
