We present a telecommunication-compatible photoconductive detector, which uses plasmonic nano structures to provide ultrafast carrier transit times for high-performance terahertz detection (>110 dB signal-to-noise-ratio and >3 THz bandwidth), eliminating the need for short-carrier-lifetime substrates for the first time.
