Investigation On The Most Commonly Used Complementary And Alternative Medicine Therapies For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

INTRODUCTION: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 11% of the population. Treatment options for IBS include both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic modalities, with increasing use of alternative therapies, including cannabis, in IBS-affected patients. CASE DESCRIPTION/METHODS: There is a lack of evidence focused on the effectiveness of cannabis in IBS. Evidence that does exist is typically low in quality (such as case series or open-label studies). DISCUSSION: This literature review focuses on available treatment options for IBS and the role that cannabis may play in current and future treatment options.
