A comparative study on morphological and fruit quality traits of diploid and polyploid carambola (Averrhoa carambola L.) genotypes

•Ploidy level of polyploid carambola plants and the original diploids was checked.•Polyploid plants showed more vigorous vegetative traits in relation to the diploids.•Reproductive characteristics indicated differentiation between diploid and polyploid plants.•Fruit size and quality were improved in carambola polyploid plants.
