•The movement model of magnetic particles under the magnetic field was established.•The trajectory of multiple magnetic particles has been analysed.•Through experimental observation of two magnetic particles, the accuracy of the simulation model was verified.•The influence of different external conditions on the chain formation of magnetic particles was evaluated.
