From firm-level imports to aggregate productivity: Evidence from Korean manufacturing firm data

•Firm-level import explains non-trivial fraction of aggregate productivity.•During the Global Financial Crisis, one-third of decline in Korean manufacturing aggregate TFP is accounted for by a contraction in firm-level imported intensity.•Our result suggests a possible link between the global slowdown in productivity and trade.
