The embodiment of the invention provides a method and a device for managing a group message in a social application. According to the method, the server side classifies each group message into a grouptopic in an incremental classification mode in advance. And when the user requests to obtain the group topic, the client sends a group topic obtaining request to the server. And the server acquires the abstract of each group topic formed in the user group, sorts each topic according to the user characteristics, and returns the abstract information and the sorting information to the client. And the client displays each topic in the form of an abstract according to the sequence in the sorting information, so that the user can conveniently and efficiently process the group message.
