Abstract
Eight pendant boranes are better than one for the activation of Lewis bases. A new diphosphine ligand that features four pendant borane groups has been prepared. The coordination chemistry of this new scaffold has been established using nickel—giving an octaboraneyl Ni0 complex; this species reacts readily with Lewis bases such as 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine and 4,4’-bipyridine. In the latter case, an unusual air-sensitive open-shell Ni-coordination polymer is obtained, which has been characterized in the solid state. More information can be found in the Full Paper by M. W.
