•Effective drainage of malignant biliary obstruction in mCRC patients can be challenging.•Repeat ERCP or PTC are frequently required.•Adverse events are common, mostly consisting of cholangitis.•Survival significantly improved in patients who could receive subsequent systemic therapy.
