Authors' Response To Aaem On The Impact Of Advanced Practice Provider Staffing In Emergency Departments

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to questions raised by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM). We realize staffing models for emergency departments (EDs) with or without advanced practice providers (APPs) are of increasing interest. Our study was intended to fill a gap in the literature, not to advocate for a particular position on this issue. By linking clinician scheduling data to detailed patient-level data in almost 100 EDs, we were able to investigate APP and emergency physician productivity in ways previous single-center, ecological studies, and national databases have not.
