Survival in cystic fibrosis after acute respiratory failure supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and/or invasive mechanical ventilation

•A retrospective analysis revealed mortality in patients with CF requiring advanced support is 37%.•Survival was similar with mechanical ventilation (MV) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).•Length of stay after lung transplantation was significantly longer in patients supported with ECMO.•One and two year survival for those surviving ICU stay was similar in both groups.
