•Four patients of rare tracheal glomus tumors were followed up for a long time.•Histomorphology and IHC are important when diagnosing tracheal glomus tumors.•Summarize the differential diagnosis of tracheal glomus tumors and NETs.•BRAF mutation status was firstly analyzed in tracheal glomus tumors.•It is the first time to report SSTR2 expression in glomus tumors.
