Parent/carers' Opinions about COVID-19 Vaccination for Children with Chronic Lung Diseases.
Health science reports(2021)
Abstract
Children with chronic lung diseases (CLDs) comprise a priority population for vaccination. In a survey of 202 parents/carers on COVID-19 vaccine acceptability for children with CLDs, 84% agreed COVID-19 vaccine should be prioritised for children with CLDs and 77% were likely to get their children vaccinated. However, 30% of those likely to vaccinate were unsure about vaccine safety. Concerns around side effects (83%) and safety (43%) were the major reasons cited by parent/carers (n=42) not likely to have their children vaccinated. Risk communication highlighting safety of COVID-19 vaccine in paediatric high-risk population may improve uptake when a vaccine becomes available.
