•Post-training activation of BLA β-adrenoceptors with clenbuterol enhances memory for an appetitive food conditioned place preference task (CPP).•Training on the CPP task upregulates dorsal hippocampal synaptic ARC protein expression.•Memory-enhancing intra-BLA administration of clenbuterol further upregulates dorsal hippocampal synaptic ARC protein expression following training on the CPP task.•De novo Dorsal hippocampal ARC protein expression is necessary for long-term memory of the CPP task.
