Abstract
Gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) presents with nausea, vomiting, and weight loss, with majority being secondary to malignant causes. Surgical gastrojejunostomy (SGJ) was considered the treatment of choice for palliation of GOO, but with the evolution of self-expandable metal stents (SEMS), enteral stenting (ES) has become more prevalent. However, studies showed an increased risk of re-intervention with ES due to tissue ingrowth. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gastroenterostomy (EUS-GE) is a novel procedure that has been utilized for the palliation of symptoms in patients with both benign and malignant GOO. Data is limited to small observational studies and only a few comparative trials are available to compare its utility with ES and SGJ. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of EUS-GE with ES and SGJ in patients with GOO.
