Fungal infection is a common medical disease in patient with diabetes. Conflicting data exist as to whether diabetes predisposes to the diseases. We conducted a prospective study covering a 3-month period about fungal foot infection in patient with diabetes. Mycological examinations were performed to confirm diagnosis. The aim of our study was to identify factors that contribute to increase fungal infections in patient with diabetes and species fungal that occur in diabetes. A total of 150 patients were examined for lesions. Eighty-one patients had a fungal foot infection. In our study, age of the patient, peripheral neuropathy, hypercholesterolemia were the main factors that predispose to fungal foot infection. (C) 2008 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
