Tree species dominance in neotropical savanna aboveground biomass and productivity

•Functional dominance is stronger than abundance dominance for Cerrado tree species.•3.4% and 4.2% of the tree species retain 50% of total biomass and productivity, respectively.•There are overlaps, but mostly mismatches, among the tree species that dominate abundance, biomass, and productivity.•Traits related to species dominance in biomass are mostly different from the ones related to dominance in productivity.•Maximum diameter of Cerrado tree species is the trait most strongly related to dominance in biomass and productivity.
