Newly-identified blood biomarkers of neurological damage are correlated with infarct volume in patients with acute ischemic stroke

•Blood levels of neuronal proteins are correlated with stroke infarct volume.•Their measures could provide a minimally invasive approximation of lesion size.•This could be useful when advanced imaging is not available or is inconclusive.
