•An electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of HES and NAR was performed.•3D nanostructured porous platinum was electrosynthesized on the electrode surface.•3DnpPt-SPE showed electrocatalytic current for HES and NAR oxidation.•The detection of HES and NAR in wastewater from citrus industry could be achieved.
