Psychosocial predictors of longitudinal changes in tobacco and cannabis use among young adults

•Young adults showed decreased likelihood of using tobacco products over time.•Young adults remained stable in their likelihood of using cannabis over time.•Psychosocial factors differentially predicted problematic changes in use over time.•Certain factors (e.g., agreeableness) were associated with greater decreases in use over time.
