Presentation of CaseA five-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal pain.She was well until two weeks earlier, when crampy abdominal pain developed. It was relieved by the passage of loose stools, without mucus or blood. The symptoms subsided after two days but recurred two days later, and she entered another hospital. A barium-enema examination and upper gastrointestinal study were negative. She was discharged after two days; penicillin was prescribed because of exposure to a streptococcal infection.
