Design of Wearable Antennas for Body Area Networks

Recently, there is a huge development in the design of microstrip patch antenna used for wearable biomedical applications have been observed. This paper throws light on the present work done by various researchers on the development of these antennas used for body area networks operating in industrial, scientific and medical band. Different antenna parameters have been incorporated with the main emphasis on the antenna gain, directivity, return loss and bandwidth. Various design techniques to make antenna as low profile and more compact have been discussed. Use of metamaterial in the design of microstrip patch antennas and its responses is also elaborated.
