Lipid Profile in Recently Diagnosed Hypertensive Patients

To investigate the serum biochemical profile and its relation with the increase in blood pressure of patients with less than 1-year history of recently diagnosed hypertension. We studied 50 patients divided into two groups. 27 recently diagnosed hypertensive patients and 23 healthy controls, of a similar mean age (45 years) and BMI (27). Biochemical determination was performed by automated techniques. Student's t test or Welch's test (equal or different variances) was used for statistical analysis. (See Table) Hypertensive patients showed higher levels of creatinine, uric acid, total cholesterol, triglycerides and chloride than controls. The atherogenic profile and increased concentrations of uric acid are yet evident at the Stage I arterial hypertension.
