A plant-wide model describing GHG emissions and nutrient recovery options for water resource recovery facilities

•The IWA-BSM2 was extended to account for chemical precipitation and N2O emissions.•Detailed indirect and direct CO2 (biogenic/non-biogenic) emissions were also included.•Control strategies balance plant performance, nutrient recovery and GHG mitigation.•Lowest emissions: control of NH4++ N2O in aerobic reactors and struvite recovery.
