Doxycyline-induced Hypoglycemia in a Nondiabetic Older Woman
JAAD case reports(2024)
Abstract
Tetracyclines are the most commonly oral antibiotics prescribed by dermatologists.1 Doxycycline is a second-generation tetracycline that differs from tetracycline by the position of a single hydroxyl-group. Owing to its antimicrobial, mitochondrion-protecting, and antiinflammatory activities, doxycycline is indicated for a wide range of therapeutic applications in the field of dermatology.2 Given the large-scale use of doxycycline by dermatologists, even the most rare adverse effects may have great implications in clinical practice.
