Georeferenced determination of the potential of public charging infrastructure

Political efforts to protect the climate are not only focused on the electricity system, but are also leading to an electrification of the transport sector. In this context, the availability of charging points is essential to increase public acceptance. But there is a lack of data about potential areas and locations for public charging points to investigate the impact of charging infrastructure on the power system. Therefore, we developed a method to derive potential locations of public charging points on the basis of open accessible data, which is also capable of improving data quality by neural networks. With this method we enable energy and mobility system modellers to take the location, capacity and individual suitability of georeferenced car parks qualitatively into account. In an exemplary study case on Germany we extracted approximately 400 000 car parks from OpenStreetMap and evaluated the car park capacity and suitability in our results.
