摘要
The chapter is in two parts: injuries to primary and permanent teeth. Both emergency care and management during follow-ups are described for each type of injury. It is strongly emphasized throughout the text that prognosis of an injured tooth relies not only on proper emergency handling but also on thorough monitoring and timely treatment intervention at follow- ups. The purpose of the chapter is to help dentists in their best efforts to save injured teeth, particularly in younger patients. The treatment recommendations are based on the best current scientific evidence, on the new 2020 IADT Guidelines (International Association of Dental Traumatology) and on the four authors’ long clinical experience in treating traumatic dental injuries. Special sections of the chapter are dedicated to the surveillance of pulp vitality and proper interpretation of sensibility tests following trauma. Upon reading, dentists will become more comfortable in establishing when to intervene endodontically or not. Other sections of the chapter cover important topics such as favoring spontaneous pulp space revascularization, specific endodontic protocols for immature necrotic teeth and for teeth presenting inflammatory root resorption, and best handling for teeth developing replacement resorption (ankylosis).
