•Collaborative optimization of loading operation planning and vessel traffic scheduling was proposed.•A multi-objective mixed integer linear programming model was formulated.•NSG-II-VNS algorithm was developed to solve the model.•The effectiveness of the proposed approaches was verified by numerical experiments.
