TGP-PCQA: Texture and geometry projection based quality assessment for colored point clouds

•The point cloud (PC) quality assessment problem is converted into the joint quality assessment problem of texture projection map (TPM) and geometry projection map (GPM).•Through the geometric and texture distortion representations in the GPM and TPM inherited from colored PC in 3D space, some perceptual features are mined from these maps, to achieve the purpose of evaluating the visual quality of colored PC.•Handling with both geometry and texture attributes in compression distortion and noise pollution, a multi-distorted Colored PC Database (denoted as CPCD2.0) with subjective scoring is constructed.•Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.
