On the behavior of a combination of adaptive filters operating with the NLMS algorithm in a nonstationary environment

•A stochastic model describing the behavior of a combination scheme is proposed.•The proposed model focuses on a nonstationary environment.•Model expressions describing the transient and steady-state phases are derived.•Some characteristics of the combination schemes are discussed.•Simulation results confirmed the accuracy of the model.
