Abstract
•Vitamin D treatment alters TLRs mRNA expression and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in both CHIKV-infected monocytes and macrophages.•Vitamin D treatment of monocytes and macrophages did not suppress CHIKV replication.•The mRNA expression level of vitamin D receptor, cathelicidin, and CYP24A1 was modulated by CHIKV infection.•The production of CXCL8/IL8 was significantly decreased or increased in CHIKV-infected monocytes or macrophages, respectively.
