摘要
Most of marine structures are made of steel. Consequently, these types of structures are exposed to corrosive environments and it is seriously critical for these structures to be used for many years. Therefore, corrosion control is an important subject of increasing interest in the modern metallic finishing industry. The most typical preventive procedure of corrosion is use of organic coatings. Thus, in this research, styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) modified by 0, 2, 4 and 6% of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles was coated on steel plate surfaces. The surface morphology properties of coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of incorporating percent nanoparticles on the corrosion resistance of SBR-coated steel was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Abrasion and adhesion test was used to evaluate the coating strength. The electrochemical monitoring of the coated steel over 35 days of immersion in 3.5 wt % NaCl solution showed that the coating with 4% nanoparticles of copper oxide have better corrosion resistance compared to other concentrations.
