Introduction: Gains in child mortality in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) over the past decade have not resulted in a commensurate reduction in neonatal mortality. Severe neonatal jaundice (NNJ) is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in LMICs.
