The technological progress of any country is gets and improved by the extent to which it effectively utilizes and transforms its mineral resources and furnaces have found their worthy place in the same. This work involves the design and construction of gas and charcoal-fired crucible furnace used in workshops and small foundries and can be easily used by undergraduate, postgraduate as well as PhD scholars. Exposing young minds to the development and application of the same imparts fundamentals materials processing such as melting and casting. Furnace casting, crucible furnace cover, burner housing, furnace cover stand, and burner are some important component of the designed furnace. Mild steel sheet was used for the construction, while the other components were selected based on process application. Post fabrication, the inside temperature of 1200 degrees C was obtained; a total mass of 10 kg of metal can be melted and the temperature was found to be enough to melt most of the commonly used engineering materials, and due to its low weight it can be transferred from one place to another.Copyright (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
