Determination of the migration of plastic additives and non-intentionally added substances into food simulants and the assessment of health risks from convenience food packaging

•Plastic additives and NIAS from food packaging were investigated.•Real-life consumption and worst-case conditions for migration tests were considered.•Repetitive microwave heating accelerated migration and degradation of additives.•Risk assessment confirmed that there is a low level of safety concern.
