•MXene/TiO2/C hybrid aerogels were prepared via freeze-drying followed by heat treatment.•The derived heterostructures endow aerogels with ultrahigh EMI shielding effectiveness.•The robust hybrid aerogel exhibits superior thermal insulation and flame retardancy.•Hydrophobic aerogel has stable and durable shielding performance and thermal insulation.
