Voice Command Based Crowd Control Training System with Various Police Formations

This paper introduces a voice command based crowd control training system. Many crowd control systems have been developed for the purpose of simulations with which users (researchers) can control various parameters, observe the simulations, and analyze the results. However, practitioners are interested in using crowd management systems not only for simulations and analysis, but also for training of new commanding police officers. They need a crowd management system that allows the user to communicate with public safety police sections with their voice and that reflects realistic situations with rioters and urban environments. For this demand, a crowd management training system has been developed, with which the user can give commands to virtual public safety police sections with their voice and practise crowd management in various situations. In the system, the user can give a series of different commands for public safety police sections to make various police formations in real time and for them to move forward, rotate, and stop. In the simulation experiments, various public safety police formations are constructed by voice commands. They are then tested in different urban environments with rioters, and their effectiveness of crowd management/control are compared.
