Aedes aegypti and the use of natural molecules for its control: Implications in the decrease of Zika disease

To generate an impact on the suppression of diseases such as Zika, it is necessary that vector control activities converge in a smart system exclusive for this goal. Chemical compounds collected from natural sources could contribute to such a control system in a powerful way, because they contain multieffect molecules useful to design and develop future insecticides and repellents. Here, we present information focused on our understanding of the utility of molecules from natural sources to control mosquito populations, aiming to promote their use by those involved in the field of mosquito control. We aim to convey this information in a way that can be useful to both the specialist in the topic and those whose interest in the topic is to avoid the bites of urban mosquitoes like Aedes aegypti or Ae. albopictus.
