Travel Time Prediction from Road Geometry with Verification

Travel time can be affected when a vehicle is driven on a winding road. A vehicle may speed up in a straight road compared to a road with a lot of turns. In this paper, we estimate the travel time by using the geometry information of a road. Using data points of the road, we find the curvature information to derive the design speed of the road. The design speed is used to approximate the driving time for the section of the road. We also adapt the computation with the average driving speed of a vehicle and show that our approach produces an accurate estimation by verifying it with the real driving data.
