Eco-friendly wood-plastic composites from laminate sanding dust and waste poly(propylene) food pails

•The industrial waste and recyclable resources are rationally utilized.•HPL sanding dust and PP-based food pails can be alternatives to manufacture WPC.•Excellent mechanical and environmental properties are simultaneously achieved.•WPC with residue materials has low carbon emission and high economic added value.•WPC with residue materials is in line with the sustainable development strategy.
