•Genetic variants in the IgH locus are related to gender-specific COVID19 responses.•Women with *2 allelic hs1.2 variant are more protected than men to COVID19 disease.•The hs1.2 allele *2 comprises DNA binding sites for the Estrogen receptor alpha.
