The unfolding of women’s economic empowerment outcomes: Time path of impacts in an Indonesia trial

•Some interventions designed to improve women’s economic lives need to be tracked long enough to show results.•Financial incentives to bank agents and training to businesswomen increased women’s agency, their profits and household income.•Sharp increases in business profits and household income were evident only in the second year after the interventions.•Improved business paractices, business capital and women's agency increased linearly and contributed directly to increased profits.
