摘要
Composites have been extensively used in many scientific and engineering fields; but a successful application of a composite component/structure depends critically on its manufacturing process, which can introduce significant problems in terms of microstructural integrity. Mechanics modelling has been extensively conducted to explore material removal, tool-matrix-reinforcement interaction and workpiece damage during composite machining. This paper presents a comprehensive review on the machining modelling of both the fibre-reinforced and particulate-reinforced composites. The discussion focused on the mechanics plays an important role in understanding machining-induced deformation of composites. The factors addressed included constitutive descriptions of composites, machining forces and tool-reinforcement-matrix interactions. The review assessed some recent advances in the methods of modelling, i.e., finite element method, discrete element method, molecular dynamics simulation, and a combination of them to realise multi-scale analyses. At the end, some open problems and perspectives were highlighted.
